Meet Dr. Petty DMD Petty E. John Dr.John Petty was born in Chattanooga, TN and raised in Huntsville, AL. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Harding University and the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham. After receiving the Walter J. Pelton Community Dentistry award at graduation from dental school, Dr. Petty served in the Commissioned Corps of the U. S. Public Health Service in rural Arkansas. He moved to Tullahoma and opened his private practice in September 1984. The present office building was constructed in 1991 to better serve his patients and allow for new technology. Dr. Petty has been involved in the promotion of the dental profession and continuing education. He attends numerous seminars as a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, Tennessee Dental Association (TDA), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Middle Tennessee Dental Study Club. He has twice been nominated for Tennessee Dentist of the Year by the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry. He received the Tennessee Dental Association Distinguished Service Award for his work as a Trustee of the TDA. He has held numerous offices in the Fourth District Dental Society and the TDA. He has also received the TDA Volunteer Service Award for mission work in Belize. He and his wife Carol have four children. His interests include volunteer work for the Boy Scouts, Bible class teaching, song leading, and medical/dental missions to Belize and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He enjoys God's creation through turkey hunting, hiking, beekeeping, and nature studies.
